A suspect arrested for the theft of jewellery, allegedly committed suicide by jumping into the Kelani river on Wednesday.

The suspect was arrested by Nawagamuwa Police on Tuesday night. The Police had taken him in a three wheeler to his house after questioning him at the police station.

The suspect escaped in Kaduwela town and jumped into the river, Police said.

The suspect aged 32 was a resident of Kaduwela. The suspect’s body was found floating in the Kelani river, police said.
