Gankanda released on bail

UNP Ratnapura district MP Dunesh Gankanda, who surrendered to the Kollupitiya Police over an alleged assault incident, was released on bail after being produced in the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Fort Chief Magistrate Kanishka Wijeratne released the Parliamentarian on cash bail of Rs 30,000 and two surety bails of Rs 100,000 each. He was also ordered to appear at the Kollupitiya Police on the last Sunday of every month.

Earlier on Saturday, he was reported to have allegedly attacked a businessman at a night club in Kollupitiya. The victim was hospitalized following the attack. The next day, a complaint was lodged in regard to the assault at the Kollupitiya Police. Gankanda who evaded Police surrendered himself yesterday morning.
