ICC Says Raina Case Is Not a Publicity Material

When Indian Team was playing against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka, Suresh Raina came into limelight but not for a good reason.

A video footage was submitted by Sri Lanka Cricket Board to BCCI (Board of Control For Cricket in India) showing Raina meeting with a lady in the lobby of the hotel where the Indian Team was stayed.

This Raina and unknown meeting happened three times in a short tenure. The lady in question is a close associate of a recognized illegal bookmaker.

Though nothing is established by the footage or by Sri Lanka Cricket Board that Raina is involved in any misdoings or misappropriations. BCCI did not react much on the video as it was saying nothing.

A statement released by N Srinivasan, the secretary of BCCI clearly declared this report as absurd and senseless. A report recently in an Australian newspaper said that the Anti Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) of ICC (International Cricket Council) is investigating against BCCI on keeping mum in this case.

In a press conference meant to clear the baseless clouds spread by media was called by the CEO of ICC Haroon Lorgat. He clearly indicated that media should not try to get a gossip material out of this incident. It is between the BCCI, ICC and ACSU to sort out the matter.

He clearly said that ICC or ACSU is not supposed to oblige media on any matter. He further added that even there is something happening between ACSU and BCCI, it will remain undisclosed.

He added that the reports sent by any country Cricket Board to ACSU are confidential and not meant for publicity purposes. It is just a matter of one to one talk between the country Board and ACSU.

BCCI also has clearly reported that whatever media is saying about a video recording submitted to them by Sri Lanka, as such nothing of such sort has happened. Such reports published by various media in this regard are purely senseless and groundless.
